Anime Review – The Devil’s a Part-Timer!

the-devils-a-part-timer-series-imageIt can sometimes be hard to tell when something isn’t quite right. The all-powerful devil working a part-time job at a fast-food chain isn’t one of those times. Just like almost every time Miley takes centre stage, it won’t take long to realise things are a little odd. But hey, it makes for some priceless comedy and absurdly enjoyable viewing.

The Devil’s a Part-Timer kicks the all-powerful devil and his lovable sidekick Shirou out of the world they rule over, Ente Isla, and into a new one. Yes, a place we’re all familiar with – earth. This dimensional shift strips our main characters of a large portion of their powers. Understandably, turning from ruler to peasant as fast as a billionaire gambler on crack who loses it all leaves much adjusting. And to top it off he’s being hunted down by hero Emi – the overly zealous firecracker of a person that one can’t help but be strangely captivated by.

And Emi isn’t the only character you get to fall in love with. Yes…tell your current romantic interest you’re taking a break because the cast of this anime demands all your love (All. Of. It). While the number of great characters is few due to a small cast, it fits perfectly as the series is a rather short 13 episodes. Each character is given the focus they need – from the adorable devil himself to his special sidekick Shirou.

Whilst a fiery and somewhat foreboding plot definitely lingers it’s important to remember that this anime is, first and foremost, a comedy. An actual comedy…like – you will laugh.

From the absurdity of seeing the devil as a fast-food worker to the outlandish attempts to assimilate into modern day culture. Not to mention Emi’s passionate drive for justice that trumps even my passion for sleeping. It’s all happening. And it’s all happening for one reason – to put a smile on that face of yours and make you giggle (just realised I love the word giggle).

And the action doesn’t stop with the devil flipping burgers. While it doesn’t necessarily feature as a main focus, tussles do appear from time to time. They’re a bit of a surprise, much like a spectacular photobomb that brings great joy. Quite possibly it’s to remind us that this good-natured, responsible devil who helps give you your takeaway is just that – the devil.

Some cool action makes an entrance at odd moments, and it's great. Source: White Fox

But forget the fiery pits of hell. This anime is just wants to make you laugh, and if you were captivated by the oddly intriguing series name, then just wait till you start watching. The Devil’s a Part-Timer! is sure to keep you gripped.
